In Short

The Nike Tiempo is Nike's touch-and-comfort boot line, known for its leather. The name goes back to 1984, but it made its name with the Tiempo Premier at the 1994 World Cup, where this page starts. The Air Tiempo Legend took over in 2005 and ran for ten generations, to the Legend 10 in 2023, which swapped kangaroo leather for a synthetic upper. The Tiempo Maestro followed in January 2026.

USA 94. Pasadena, Brazil v Italy, the World Cup final settled on penalties. Romário, the Golden Ball winner, and Paolo Maldini were in Tiempo Premiers. This is where the Tiempo made its name.

Spot The Difference

Soft K-leather with double-cross stitching and a fold-over tongue. Made in Italy.

This page starts here, but the Premier isn't the first Tiempo: SoccerBible traces the name back to the Tiempo D in 1984.

It starred in Nike's 1994 ad The Wall. After the World Cup came Cantona, Ian Wright and Pirlo. It barely changed for four years. For France 98 it got a royal blue Swoosh on the soleplate. In 2001/02 Nike made the Swoosh smaller and moved it forward, like on our 2003 pair. By 2004 it sat on the Mercurial soleplate, one of the lightest K-leather boots around.

Nike launched it in 2005 to take over from the Tiempo Premier, as a boot for No. 10s. Ronaldinho was the face, with Andrea Pirlo and Joe Cole. He was FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

His 2005 R10 pair was white with gold: an R on the right tongue, 10 on the left. He wore it at his Barcelona peak, including the 2006 Champions League final win over Arsenal.

Before the knockout stage of the 2006 World Cup came the gold version with a white Swoosh, an R on the tongue and Brazil's five stars on the heel. That's our pair in the photo.

Our Tiempo Ronaldinho 10R in Team Red/White/Gold, a 2007 colourway.

Ronaldinho drew the sweet spot he wanted on his old boots, and Nike built a boot around it. It came with his own signature collection in 2006, Nike's first with a footballer.

Spot The Difference

His signature on the side, 10R on the front and a big fold-over tongue.

Nike unveiled the collection in September 2006: the Tiempo Ronaldinho boot, plus clothing and kit made to his specs. Nike had done this before for Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, never for a footballer.

His earlier pairs were Air Legends with his details on top. This one was designed from scratch for him: kangaroo leather, five-eye lacing and a bigger tongue for more touch. Three colours of stitching on the heel stand for strength, inspiration and joy.

Then came the Dois, "two" in Portuguese, during his time at AC Milan. No tongue this time, very soft leather and a quilted stitch pattern that later Tiempos kept.

Questions

How does the Nike Tiempo fit?

It depends on the generation. The Legend V is true to size on paper but snug, so one boot reviewer suggests half a size up. The Legend VI has more room and fits close to true to size. The Legend 7 is true to size, the same as the VI. The Legend 9 can feel a bit tighter than the Legend 8, with a lower toe box. The Legend 10 sits in the middle for width, with less stretch than the leather ones. The Nike Premier runs snug: half a size up.

Is the Nike Tiempo good for wide feet?

Some are. Unisport recommends the Legend 9 for wider feet, though the Legend 8 has a little more room. The Legend 7 fits medium to wide feet well. The Legend V suits medium feet best.

When did the Nike Tiempo come out?

The name goes back to 1984: SoccerBible traces it to the Tiempo D. The Tiempo Premier made it famous at the 1994 World Cup in the USA, and that's where this page starts.

How many Tiempo Legend generations are there?

Ten, from the Air Tiempo Legend in 2005 to the Legend 10 in 2023. Then the Tiempo Maestro took over in 2026.

What replaced the Tiempo Legend?

The Tiempo Maestro, unveiled on 4 December 2025 and on sale from 22 January 2026. Nike dropped the Legend name after the Legend 10.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Premier and the Nike Premier?

The Tiempo Premier is the original, from the 1994 World Cup. The Nike Premier is a separate, cheaper boot from 2013, styled on it. We keep both with our Tiempos.

What boots did Ronaldinho wear in the crossbar video?

The Nike Air Legend R10 in white and gold, from 2005. More on the Air Legend.

What's the difference between the 2005 and 2006 Air Legend R10?

What's the difference between the 2015, 2018 and 2025 Touch of Gold editions?

The boot underneath. 2015: a Legend V, 3,000 numbered pairs. 2018: a Legend 7, 1,000 pairs. 2025: a new Tiempo Legend R10 with the fold-over tongue back. More in Remakes.

What boots did Ronaldinho wear?

Nike Tiempos. The Air Tiempo Legend R10 in white and gold (2005) and gold (2006 World Cup), then his own Tiempo Ronaldinho 10R (2006) and the Dois at AC Milan. He also wore customised Legend IIIs.

What boots did Pirlo wear for his Panenka against England?

Personalised Nike Tiempo Legend IV Elites, at Euro 2012. He chipped his penalty in the quarter-final shootout, which Italy won 4-2. More on the Legend IV.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Legend 7 and 8?

The upper. The Legend 7 brought Flyknit and a Fit-Mesh lining. The Legend 8 added a diamond pattern on unstitched K-leather and a Flyknit tunnel round the midfoot. Both use the Hyperstability plate.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Legend 8 and Legend 9?

The Legend 8 has a diamond pattern on the leather. The Legend 9 swapped it for raised textures with foam pods, and dropped from 228g to 207g in a size 9.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Legend 9 and Legend 10?

The upper. The Legend 9 is K-leather (kangaroo). The Legend 10 is FlyTouch Plus, a synthetic, and Nike says it's lighter and holds 55% less water.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Legend V and Legend VI?

The Legend V has quilted leather on the toe. The Legend VI is smooth, with almost no stitching, an inner skeleton for fit and Tiempo on the heel counter.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Legend 10 and the Tiempo Maestro?

The upper and the plate. The Legend 10 uses FlyTouch Plus and a one-piece plate with one central stud up front. The Maestro uses Techleather and a split plate with two central studs up front.

What's the difference between the Tiempo Maestro and Ligera?

The plate and the price. Both use Techleather. The Maestro has a split soleplate. The Ligera has a traditional full plate, a fold-over tongue and costs nearly £100 less.

Is the Tiempo Legend 10 kangaroo leather?

No. In March 2023 Nike said it would stop making anything with kangaroo leather that year. The Legend 10 uses FlyTouch Plus, Nike's own synthetic.

What is the Sergio Ramos Tiempo?

The Tiempo Legend 7 "Corazón y Sangre" (December 2017): pearl white, inspired by Real Madrid and Andalusian horses, 4,000 numbered pairs. Ramos helped design it. More on the Legend 7.

What is the Jordan Tiempo?

The Jordan Tiempo Maestro, out on 13 March 2026 in Infrared 23 with Jordan's elephant print and the Jumpman on the outside. A limited release. More on the Maestro.

How do I tell which Tiempo I have?
