The Nike Phantom is Nike's boot line built for precision in attack. It started with the Phantom Vision in July 2018, then the Phantom Venom in January 2019. In 2020 Nike merged the two into the Phantom GT. The GX, Luna, GX 2 and Luna 2 came next, and the Phantom 6 dropped in June 2025.
Phantom Vision

Before the GT and the GX, there was the Vision. De Bruyne and Coutinho led the way. Nike's new playmaker boot had arrived.
Ghost Lace: a cover hides the laces, so it looks laceless. Textured Flyknit, and a sock collar on the Elite DF.

Revealed on 17 July 2018, it replaced the Magista. The first colourway, Black Op, went on sale the next day, and Raised On Concrete followed on 30 July. Leon Goretzka was a launch face too. That September, Coutinho headlined a Phantom fan event in a Barcelona metro station.
Underneath the lace cover the boot is still laced, with one pull to tighten it. Inside sits Quadfit, a mesh bootie. The name wasn't new: "Phantom" had been the top tier of the Hypervenom since 2013.
In December 2018 came the EA Sports FIFA 19 edition, with a console-button graphic. De Bruyne, Bernardeschi and Kirby wore it. Then the packs kept coming: Fully Charged in March 2019, Victory for the Women's World Cup in May, and Under The Radar and New Lights in July.

Phantom Venom

The Phantom built for finishers. Rashford trained in it before launch. One generation, then it was gone.
13 raised ridges on the instep for striking, and off-centre laces you can see. No lace cover.

Rashford was seen training in a fully blacked-out pair in November 2018, James Milner in one with a white Swoosh. It took over from the Hypervenom, opened the Game Over pack and went on sale on 19 January 2019. The upper is Flyknit under a layer of NikeSkin, with extra Flyknit over the lower laces.
Nike called the strike zone Precision PWR: 13 raised blades, about 30% bigger than the Hypervenom's. Under it, the HyperReactive 2.0 plate with chevron studs.
In March 2020 the Future DNA series dressed it as the 2002 Air Zoom Total 90 II. There was no Venom 2. In 2020 Nike folded the Venom and the Vision into one boot.

Phantom Vision 2

The Vision's last update, in 2020. A lower collar, and a Future DNA edition that brought back the look of the 2013 Hypervenom.
Four touch zones on the knit, for trapping, striking, knuckling and dribbling. Same plate as the first Vision.

Unveiled on 16 January 2020 and on sale a week later, at £230. It launched in Future Lab (Laser Crimson/Black/Metallic Silver), with a black Kinetic pair alongside.
Flyknit and Ghost Lace stayed, with the Dynamic Fit collar on the Elite DF. Nike set the collar lower so it's easier to get on.
The Future DNA Vision 2 dropped on 6 March 2020, skull motif and all: the first of four limited boots, one a week. The others were a Mercurial Vapor 13, a Venom styled on the T90 and a Tiempo Legend 8.

Phantom GT

In 2020 Nike brought the Vision and the Venom together in one boot. In June 2021 Skepta put his name on it: Bloody Chrome, with a red butterfly print and chrome Swooshes. Nike's first performance football boot with a music artist.
Generative Texture: a raised pattern moulded into the knit. Off-centre laces, low cut or a low DF collar.

On sale on nike.com on 3 August 2020, at €250. Nike was back to three boot lines, Mercurial, Tiempo and Phantom, for the first time in ten years. Kevin De Bruyne fronted the launch, with Kai Havertz. On the touch and feel, De Bruyne said: "the best I have ever worn in my career".
Nike placed the texture using data from its Sport Research Lab on how the ball meets the boot. A first for a Nike football boot. Under it, the Hyperquick plate: studs and a side bridge for quick turns, with an open arch. ACC for grip in the wet. In September 2020 came the first FlyEase version, with a fold-down heel.
Then the collabs. The Reveal Pack (April 2021) had a 3D graphic that spells PHANTOM, SKILLS or NIKE FOOTBALL depending on the filter. Skepta's Bloody Chrome dropped on 12 June 2021 with a chrome plate too, and it sold out in several places.

Phantom GT2

The GT2 didn't change everything. De Bruyne, Kane and Havertz kept wearing it, and its last colourway was made for the 2022 World Cup.
Same Hyperquick plate as the GT. Only the upper got a small update.

The first pairs came in the Renew pack on 12 July 2021: black and iron grey with a blue Swoosh and blue stud tips, alongside a Mercurial and a Tiempo. €250, high and low cut.
Shock Wave followed in October 2021. The World Cup 2022 edition (Metallic Copper/White/Black/Pink Blast) dropped on 14 November 2022, the last GT2 before the GX.
In September 2022 Pro:Direct also got the Phantom Ultra Venom, a limited pair in Black/Bright Citrus with NikeSkin over Flyknit.

Phantom GX

The GX made its entrance at the 2022 World Cup. England's Grealish, Mount and Dier were seen in it first, then Kane and Foden. And it brought Gripknit.
A fingerprint-like texture on the knit, an uneven collar and heel, and a lace cover on the DF.

It went on sale on 15 December 2022. Gripknit is Nike's own yarn, coated and melted so it turns sticky, flexible and tough. It keeps water out without extra layers. The upper reaches further over the laces for a bigger striking area. The plate has 13 studs, five of them Tri-star, and Nike called it its most versatile yet.
Two versions: the Elite DF with a collar and Ghost Lace, back from the Vision, and a low cut with the laces partly covered. Hyper Pink came first. The first full pack, Blast, dropped on 16 January 2023.
In March 2023 Nike made Kane a one-off white "Kane 54" pair after he became England's all-time top scorer. Not for sale. In June 2023 Haaland got his first player edition, Sonic Yellow/Black, sold through a Pro:Direct ballot and made in his size, UK 9.5.

Phantom Luna

Crystal Dunn helped launch it in June 2023. Nike spent more than two years building it with feedback from women players.
Cyclone 360: a circle of studs near the toes for turning. Asym Fit, snug around the ankle.

Announced on 7 June 2023 and on sale later that month. It used the GX's Gripknit, with bigger touch zones. The circular stud pattern is there for grip when you spin.
It came in two versions, the Luna Elite and the Luna. In January 2024 it merged with the GX into one boot, in two cuts.
↑ All GenerationsPhantom GX 2

Erling Haaland's second player edition came on the GX 2 in January 2025, inspired by Norway's volcanoes. Want the high cut? That's the Luna 2.
Low cut only. No collar version any more, and the Cyclone 360 circle of studs from the Luna.

On sale on 8 January 2024 in Vortex (Green Glow/Black), at $280. Updated Flyknit and Gripknit, a one-piece inner shell to keep water out, conical studs and a wider bridge.
Nike merged the GX and the Luna into one boot in two cuts, so the GX 2 and Luna 2 share those updates and the Cyclone 360 plate. The GX 2 lost its collar version: the cut is the difference. Footy Headlines counted 13 GX 2 and Luna 2 editions in 2024.
Mad Ready (White/Metallic Gold Coin/Black) came in January 2024. Mad Energy (Mint/Atomic Red/Off Noir) came a year later. Easy to mix up.

Phantom Luna 2

Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d'Or. Nike marked it with a one-off Luna 2 made just for him: mostly white, with a gold soleplate. Never for sale. Want it low? That's the GX 2.
A high knit collar. The rest matches the GX 2.

Phantom 6

Erling Haaland and Alexia Putellas fronted it in June 2025. In April 2026 Haaland got his own EH9 pair, in colours that echo the boots he wore as a 17-year-old at Bryne.
A reversed Swoosh on the heel and a row of conical studs on the plate. High or Low, same plate.

Announced on 4 June 2025 and on sale on 12 June. Nike built it from player feedback on the GX, GX 2, Luna and Luna 2. It sits on a new last: the toe box is 3 mm shorter and 1 mm higher.
Tuned Gripknit, an upgraded Cyclone 360 plate with a row of conical studs, and new flex zones. The High has extra Gripknit over the laces, and Ghost Lace on the Elite High. This Gripknit also comes on more of the cheaper versions.
First pack: Fear Nothing (June 2025). Then Shadow, the EA Sports FC 26 pair with its pixel Swoosh (September), and Max Voltage (October).
On 29 June 2026 Travis Scott's Phantom 6 x Cactus Jack dropped, as a Low Elite FG and an Indoor pair: neon green and brown, a glossy reversed Swoosh and the Cactus Jack name on the inside. Haaland was seen in a pair.

The short-lived ones stay with you.
The Vision and Venom were gone by 2020, but people still ask us about them. Then the GT brought both together and the GX took things somewhere new. If we could keep one Phantom for ourselves? The Skepta GT. Easy.

Questions
How does the Nike Phantom fit?
Most Phantoms fit true to size. The Vision and Vision 2 are snug, with room for medium to wide feet. The GT has a lot of room in the forefoot. The GX 2 and Luna 2 are slightly wider in the midfoot. The Phantom 6 fits true to size with a medium forefoot, High and Low the same. The Venom starts snug and suits narrow to medium-wide feet.
Is the Nike Phantom good for wide feet?
The Phantom GT is the roomy one, with plenty of space along the whole boot. The GX 2 and Luna 2 are slightly wider in the midfoot. The Venom isn't ideal if you need a wide fit.
Is the Phantom Vision hard to get on?
At first, yes. The first Vision has a narrow opening, so it's tough to slip on, but it gets easier after a few wears. Nike set the collar lower on the Vision 2, though it still takes a little work.
When did the Nike Phantom come out?
July 2018. The Phantom Vision was revealed on 17 July 2018 and went on sale the next day.
How many Nike Phantom models are there?
Ten models across a few families, from 2018 to 2025: Vision, Venom, Vision 2, GT, GT2, GX, Luna, GX 2, Luna 2 and Phantom 6.
What's the difference between the Phantom Vision and the Phantom Venom?
The Vision (2018) is the playmaker boot: Flyknit with a lace cover (Ghost Lace). The Venom (2019) is the striker boot: Flyknit under NikeSkin, visible off-centre laces and a ridged strike zone.
What did the Phantom replace?
The Phantom Vision replaced the Magista in 2018. The Phantom Venom replaced the Hypervenom in January 2019.
Why did Nike stop making the Phantom Vision and Venom?
We found no public reason from Nike. In August 2020 Nike merged them into the Phantom GT and went back to three boot lines: Mercurial, Tiempo and Phantom.
What does DF mean on a Phantom?
Dynamic Fit: the knit sock collar around the ankle, as on the Vision Elite DF.
Does the Phantom Vision have laces?
Yes. The laces sit under a cover called Ghost Lace, so the Vision looks laceless. One pull tightens them.
Is the Phantom Vision the same as the Phantom VSN?
Yes. "PhantomVSN" is the name printed on the boot, and most shops write it Phantom Vision. PhantomVSN II is the Vision 2, and the Venom is the PhantomVNM.
What is Ghost Lace?
A cover over the laces, so the boot looks laceless but is still laced, with one pull to tighten. It came in on the Vision (2018) and came back on the GX DF and the Phantom 6 Elite High.
What is Gripknit?
Nike's own yarn, coated and melted so it turns grippy, with a fingerprint-like texture. It first came on the Phantom GX in December 2022.
What is Generative Texture?
The raised pattern on the Phantom GT upper. Nike moulded it into the Flyknit and placed it using data on how the ball meets the boot.
What is Cyclone 360?
Nike's circular stud pattern near the toes, for grip when you turn. It came on the Luna (2023), then the GX 2 and Luna 2 (2024), and an upgraded version on the Phantom 6 (2025).
What's the difference between the Phantom GT and the GT2?
Not much. The GT2 (July 2021) kept the GT's Hyperquick plate and got a small update to the upper.
What's the difference between the Phantom GX and the GX 2?
The GX (December 2022) came with a collar (DF) or low cut. The GX 2 (January 2024) is low cut only, with updated Gripknit, a one-piece inner shell and the Cyclone 360 plate.
What's the difference between the Phantom GX 2 and the Luna 2?
The cut. Nike merged the GX and the Luna into one boot in 2024: the GX 2 is low cut, the Luna 2 is high cut. Both got the Gripknit upper, the one-piece inner shell and the Cyclone 360 plate.
What's the difference between the Phantom 6 High and Low?
The collar and the laces. Both use the same plate. The High has extra Gripknit over the laces, and the Elite High has Ghost Lace. Unisport says they fit the same. More on the Phantom 6.
What is the Nike Phantom Luna?
A Phantom built with women players' feedback, launched in June 2023, with a snug Asym Fit collar and the Cyclone 360 plate. More on the Luna.
What is the Skepta Nike boot?
The Phantom GT x Skepta "Bloody Chrome", out on 12 June 2021: red butterfly print, chrome Swooshes and a chrome plate. Nike's first performance football boot with a music artist. More on the GT.
Who wears the Nike Phantom?
Kevin De Bruyne and Philippe Coutinho launched the Vision. Harry Kane and Kai Havertz wore the GT line. Grealish, Mount and Foden wore the GX. Erling Haaland and Alexia Putellas are the faces of the Phantom 6.
Is the Nike Phantom being discontinued?
Not confirmed. A Footy Headlines leak says the Phantom 6 could be the last Phantom. Nike hasn't confirmed it.
